Introductions

everyone

  • New people! (Capstone, etc)

  • Capstone paperwork + CSLI paperwork → getting it done well :)

Summary of people doing stuff now

Sam

  • Lance work: head of ADCS, simulation,

  • Morrison work: transceiver

  • Onur work: ground station CAD

  • Tim work: ground station power

  • Sam work: ground station ME

  • Peter work: flight computer

  • Miguel work: Starshade payload, mechanical

Capstone discussion

Sam

  • Where does capstone fit into the project?

    • Louis work, reversible adhesive

    • Design a transceiver module (Sam thinks it’s good, if we can get a client, this is fantastic)

    • Finalization of design of the satellite is accelerated by capstone team, very good as long as we don’t step on each other’s toes

  • Capstone project scope

    • ME: ConOps, Systems, Mission Risk assessment and feasibility studies (Payload)

    • Louis' reversible adhesive

      • TRL 4, to go up to 7 or 8, one needs a mission in space, our satellite can supply that

      • Payload options (finding a balance between our educational benefit and ATSP’s technological benefit):

        • 1. Company gives us payload, and we build a satellite around that

          • Pros: Support and Money

          • Cons: Quite strict

        • 2. Louis helps and acts as client

          • Pros: gives us a chance to build stuff without COTS, and we work with Louis

        • 3. We design our own payload independently

          • Cons: Harder, work less with Louis

        • Sam’s proposal: implement a payload to raise TRL level with option 2.

          • Requires heat analysis, good opportunity for ME work

          • This leaves power management, ADCS, payload, flight computer, ground station

  • Discussion

    • The plan is that the outcome of capstone project is the CSLI proposal

    • For ECE documentation, there will be very little needed for CSLI, but Dr. Simoni will need more, so the documentation for ECE is going to be twofold

    • The team will incorporate younger members and capstone members for writing proposal.

ECE capstone items

Morrison

  • Meet with BK from Amergent (a bona fide satellite company)

  • Hold back on inviting Dr. Simoni until documentation and a solid plan is achieved

Leadership Roles

Sam

Sam and Morrison want underclassmen to step up for leadership, especially from a project management standpoint so that the program doesn’t end with Sam and Morrison.

Sam wants to pass on systems engineering knowledge

General Updates

Everyone

  • Radio club is meeting with ground station

  • Miguel:

    • Looking into deployment mechanisms (servo, burn wire, spring, etc)

    • Looking for people to tag on the project (Onur tagging on), help with brainstorming and prototyping ideas

    • Set up a meeting, documentation on confluence

  • Peter:

    • Components have arrived, waiting for Jack to tell us when he’s ready for a soldering party

    • Power management needs to happen

    • Herniter Hoard depleted (all gone)

  • Lance:

    • 2/3 of the time in sun

    • Added a reaction wheel, and now math works! We have control. Recommends we add a reaction wheel for sure

    • Comments from Sam: we need to do a trace study to determine if we can do the reaction wheel (size won’t be a problem though, maybe bumping up to 2U). Recommends Lance look into both reaction wheel and non reaction wheel.

  • Yejia:

    • Bullied (met with) Peter, discussed the PiCubed board and assembly

  • Onur:

    • Joining Miguel (through ritual of fist bump)

Rocketry Membership

Sam

  • Rocketry is trying to consolidate a big 'ol network of space club people

  • They have access to SGA funding and promotion, would be good for us

  • Plan for next year is to update main board once a month on what’s going on

  • Pillars of rocketry:

    • USLI

    • Hobby rocketry

    • Associated organizations

      • SmallSat

      • Electric Propulsion Group

      • Rose Propulsion Laboratory

  • We may need a treasurer that works with main Rocketry

  • Members of this club can be an active member, with weekly meetings.

  • Everyone is allowed to be a member of rocketry, a voting session is on Monday at 7pm in the KIC.

  • We will decide next year if we need an official “project manager,” up to the team. Formal leadership is a possibility

  • Access to SEDS; grants, meetings, etc. Join Rocketry discord for more info

  • Rocketry has a new constitution, members of SmallSat can vote on ratifying it

 Action items

Sam will get confirmation from Louis
Ping Jack about parts
ECE team will meet with BK
Design review with expert HAM people (Morrison will reach out to Dr. Paget)
Miguel will send out a when2meet for mechanisms brainstorming meeting

Looking for labels? They can now be found in the details panel on the floating action bar.
