Rocket Motor Inventory
All rocket motors stored in the Rose Rocketry space must be stored in the team fire cabinet, regardless of ownership. The fire cabinet must remain locked unless it is actively being used. Any motors or black powder charges which are assembled but not flown must be returned to the cabinet after returning from a launch.
Location:
The fire cabinet is located between the Epoxy and 3D Printer tables.
Access:
The fire cabinet is secured with a pad-lock and can only be opened by public safety. To open the cabinet simply call public safety and ask for someone to unlock the rocketry fire cabinet in the BIC. Most of the pub safe guys know us by name because we launch often enough Sometimes they check who is asking for the cabinet to be opened. An officer should be present in that case.
What Is Stored in the Cabinet:
Competition rocket motors: Motors for the student launch competition are stored in the fire cabinet, typically they are on the bottom shelf due to their size.
L1 rocket motors: L1 rocket motors are to be used for L1 certification flights. These motors are stored on the top shelf due to their small diameter and length.
Project rocket motors: Several members take on rocket projects. The motors for these projects are placed wherever they fit, as project motor size can differ dramatically. It is the responsibility of the person or people doing the project to ensure their motor is not misused.
Black Powder and Charges: As a low explosive, black powder is stored in the fire cabinet, along with any deployment or ground testing charges. The black powder itself is stored in a labeled canister and constructed deployment charges are placed inside a LiPo battery bag to prevent electronics problems.
Personal Rocket Motors: Some members fly model rockets outside of Rose but store their motors in the fire cabinet. It is their responsibility to account for and label their personal motors. If you are interested in storing personal motors at Rose Rocketry, reach out to Ben Graham or Gabriel Woller on Discord.
