Report Criteria

  1. Audience: You need to define this with your instructor. The typical audience is the client, the client’s supervisor, the instructor, and/or others that the client wants to involve in the project updates. Keep in mind that this is a technical report when identifying your audience.

    1. Client?

  2. Objective: (1) provide a clear starting place for winter quarter work (2) provide evidence that the current state was achieved through thoughtful effort. You may wish to clarify or expand the objectives further (e.g. getting client approval for some purchasing, getting sign-off on a concept, etc.).

    1. Continue Building off of Alpha bot & learning from early build

  1. Description: You propose the outline and content. We’ve been observing and reviewing your process all quarter, you document that every week, so no need to capture it again in addition to holding a design review. So don’t include descriptions of your work or process and ideas that didn’t pan out -- we want to see your current status and accomplishments. That might involve concepts you are considering, a complete design, a detailed look at a part of the design, an experimental plan, etc.

    1. Describe current progress on Alpha, Detailed look at part selection (motor/force analysis, etc)

  1. Project management: We will start using a specific project management format in the winter, so we need to start planning now. As part of your report, each team needs to complete a plan for the first week of winter class. We will plan for the rest of the quarter during the first week. first draft of Quarter Goals and a draft of Sprint 1 Plan for weeks 1-3. See the Quarter 2 project management process document for details. (We will review this together in class.)

    1. Jira?

  1. Accountability: Include an organized timesheet and summary of how you spent your time this term per person. Create the “time spent” categories based on your project. Make this a useful data point for reflection.

    1. This ain’t gonna look good for me

  1. Grading: Note that the client report grade is not separable from the grade for your design work. You can’t write a good report for a bad design, but you can write a bad report that hurts your grade. You should reference the accomplishment rubric for grading.
