Notes 9/16 - Stakeholder Perspective

Notes 9/16 - Stakeholder Perspective

Stakeholder perspectives aka needs aka goals etc.

  • What are we trying to accomplish?

  • What does the client want?

  • What do customers/users want?

Where do we get stakeholder perspectives?

  • Talk to clients, manufacturers, users

  • Observe stakeholders and discuss pain-points with them

  • Make a list OR a narrative of the stakeholder

Translate stakeholder perspectives to a list of goals (aka requirements, specifications)

  • Define what the project is going do (not how)

    • Good example: The robot will be able to wirelessly communicate with a personal device

    • Bad example: The robot should be bluetooth enabled with (insert name of specific device)

  • List specific attributes that are positive not negative

    • Good example: The robot will balance on two wheels

    • Bad example: The robot should not fall over

  • Defines performance, characteristics, or behaviors

Develop a testable documentation of design requirements

  • Example need: Robot needs to be cost effective

    • Testable criteria: Set maximum budget to $1000
