Meeting Structure

  • Current SmallSat

    • Friday figure it out

    • Sunday do it

  • Suggestions

    • Regular subteam meetings

    • Be flexible

  • USLI

    • Full team on Friday (updates/integration 2 hours)

      • Review to make sure we’re not wasting time (budget time for each section)

      • after opening presentation split up and get to work

    • Regular subteam meetings (2 hours)

Organization

  • Current SmallSat

    • Leads for each part of the system

  • Suggestions

    • Split team up into Rose Mission Control and Satellite

    • More concrete tasks and goals

    • Need a timeline enforcer

  • USLI

    • Vehicle and payload are big sections and EE and ME are subsections

Leadership style

  • When to handhold vs when to let ppl make mistakes

  • Open-ended (didn’t quite work)

  • Hand-holdy (worked ok but needed to move one with the most dedicated members)

  • Keep people up to date with what’s going on

  • Seek feedback (feedback forms or asking ppl in person, depends on # and comfortablility)

  • Comfortable, close culture is good

  • Need to set clear deadlines for clear reasons that are out of your immediate control

  • Make it clear how what members are doing is important

  • Get people involved in design early

  • Documentation is necessary

  • How to make a comfortable culture

    • Affirm being unfamiliar

    • Let ppl know you’re there to help

    • Try to just be nice, but not too nice when it could really hurt them or the team (prove to me that it will work, not how it won’t not work)

    • Know when to be assertive but not an asshole

    • Early inclusivity (have them organically come to conclusions)

    • Push people to get their friends involved

Communication

  • Always opt to engage and communicate but don’t go too far (be nice and not intrusive)

  • SmallSat has a problem with the above
